Using the site boundary, topographic, zoning and environmental information, Simonton Engineering prepares site plans for the most efficient use of the site to meet the owners vision. Incorporating the infrastructure component and hydrologic/hydraulic design for drainage into the initial concept planning is critical to the success of the site design. Each site involves unique challenges.
Case Studies:
Problem: As with most small towns, keeping the downtown area full of vitality is difficult. The City had businesses that desired the location, but the old sidewalks were deteriorated, tree planters were coming apart and barrier-free access could not be accommodated.
Solution: Using a Transportation Enhancement (TE) grant, the city provided a vision of the downtown block to be renovated. The sidewalks were replaced with brick paver bordered concrete sidewalks, replaced curb & gutter and utilized stoops and ramps to meet ADA standards and improved the overall image of the downtown block. Businesses along the streetscaped block are flourishing and more businesses are locating there.
